Coastwatch Portland Bill

Have a look at a local charity that we support, they are the National Coastwatch Institution and, contrary to popular belief, they are not funded by the Coastguard but are a self funding charity.

Portland Harbour is a fabulous large enclosed tidal area which is widely recognised as the best sailing venue in Britain.

The London 2012 Olympics are going to use Portland Harbour as the venue for their sailing events and many of the Team GB sailors have used the sailing facilities here.

Portland Harbour also offers an excellent base for land and beach based holidays as it is situated along side Weymouth, one of Dorset's favourite holiday destinations.

Dream Cottages

The harbour is trapped between the southern edge of Weymouth and the northern edge of Portland itself, the Isle of Portland is connected to the mainland by a long thin causeway which holds the only road access to the Isle. The eastern edge of the harbour is protected by large man-made harbour walls.

To the East and to the West stretches the impressive Jurassic Coast which is one of the UK's best known tourist attractions.
